STUDIO MA TOTE BAGS

For Studio Ma’s annual holiday gift in 2022, we decided on sending out tote bags that encourage big and small journeys in the coming year and beyond. With this decided, I moved to focusing on having Studio Ma’s mission of being driven to make the world better guide my design for the bag as well as the production vendor search.

After researching and presenting multiple vendors to the team, BAGGU, who is committed to sustainable, ethical, and environmentally friendly production was chosen. For the design, I went through a number of iterations on the content design, placement, pattern variations, sizing, and color before the final design shown was chosen and produced. Designs not chosen shown in following images. Click through to view.

FYNN STATIONERY

Historic, a marketing agency in Arizona, works with clients in a variety of sectors. During my time there, Fynn, a senior living care facility platform, came to us needing a refreshed and easy to use stationery set.

I took the lead on this project and worked directly with the client in finding a solution. Through many iterations on the letterhead, envelope, and business card, the final stationery set shown was chosen. The set was built in InDesign and was then also translated to Microsoft Word for easy use for all team members.

HOLIDAY CARDS

At the end of every year, Studio Ma sends out holiday cards to their clients, friends, and partners across the country. With hundreds of cards needing to be sent out, Studio Ma wanted to stay true to their core value of sustainability.

After a number of creative discussions, I pitched the idea of sending out a postcard to the team. The final cards I designed eliminate a large amount of paper waste. The cards, send “warm” holiday wishes with photos of Arizona landscapes by New York photographer, Mark Sommerfeld, and were printed locally on 100% recycled paper. Click through to view.

STUDIO MA HIGHER EDUCATION BOOK

Studio Ma is highly experienced in working with higher education institutions, and they have a large number of projects to show for it. In 2022, for an upcoming higher education conference, they wanted a printed booklet to be given out to attendees that highlighted the gamut of their higher education work from over the years.

For this project, I worked with the marketing manager on gathering content and I took the lead on the design of the book. The final booklet concisely highlights Studio Ma’s higher education work from  across the country over the years. Click through to view.

SENIOR THESIS

Plastic has quickly become one of the most widely produced materials in the world. By 2050, it is estimated that over 12 billion metric tons of plastic waste will exist. While this plastic production and pollution is a complex subject that requires intervention on a national, government wide scale, this publication just scratches the surface of this social issue for my senior thesis.

The final designed book highlights my research on plastic pollution as well as the majority of the work done during my senior year studying at Visual Communication Design at Arizona State University. Click through to view.

 HERBERGER SIGNAGE

In my fifth and final year at ASU, I took up an independent study with Eric Montgomery to imagine what a signage system for the ASU Herberger Design and the Arts buildings could look like. The school is comprised of 2 structures, 4 floors each, connected by a bridge that doubles as a lecture hall.

After asking for and receiving the architectural drawings,, I printed them out and walked every floor, labeling the function of each room. Next, I recreated the maps, designed a square-based pictogram system following the natural design of the building, and put it all together following the ASU brand guidelines to make the final maps shown. OF DIRT AND FIRE

In an Exhibit Design study at Arizona State University, I designed the exhibition branding and collateral for an imagined exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art showcasing the lesser known ceramic works of Pablo Picasso.

Following the Whitney Museum’s brand identity done by Experimental Jetset, I designed posters, tickets, billboards, exhibit renderings, and publication design. Click through to view.

CAUGHT IN A ROCK

Since I was a child, I have been fascinated with seashells, fossils, and rocks. I was an avid collector of them in my early years and last year, came across my collection in my childhood home. Upon this discovery, I decided to revisit this interest and learn more on the subject.

Paleontology, a 1929 book by Edward Wilber Berry, informed the majority of the book’s content. This self initiated publication is a study and visual exploration of fossilized rocks, creatures, and plants. Click through to view.

PHILA

In my sophomore year at ASU, I took a type design class. In this class, we spent the semester designing the letters to spell out ‘imagination’. Each letter was started with paper sketches. Once the form was roughed out, it was painted black and the subsequent weeks were spent refining it by layering it with white and black paint until it was approved to be digitized and kerned.

Following this class, I took up multiple independent studies with Eric Montgomery over the next year to continue the creation of this typeface inspired by Frutiger and Helvetica. Phila is a dynamic sans serif typeface built for web and small to medium format print. Click through to view.
